Slow’s BBQ to Open as Part of Strand Theater Redevelopment in Pontiac
(C. Proxmire, Dec. 7, 2014)
Slow’s Bar BQ will open a location in the former Strand Theater in Downtown Pontiac as part of a redevelopment project slated to open late next year, according to Crain’s Detroit.
The theatre is expected to become the Encore Performing Arts Center, which will be run as a nonprofit. A $5 million campaign is underway, and developers hope that by bringing Slow’s on board it will help attract donors to the project.
According to reporter Kirk Pinho of Crains, “The renovation is being funded by $4.1 million in federal historic tax credits, $2.27 million in Michigan Economic Development Corp. funding from the Community Revitalization Program, $3.26 million in developer equity, and $7.67 million in equity from a city of Pontiac renovation that was never completed. ”
Slow’s also recently announced an expansion to Grand Rapids.
