Pontiac Lights Tree of Hope (video)
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 6, 2014)
The kick off to the holiday season in Pontiac is the annual lighting of the Tree of Hope in front of the Waterman Hall of Justice. The ceremony this year included a visit from Scooby Doo and local children’s choirs.
Glen Konopaskie, President of the Pontiac Downtown Business Association, welcomed people to the event and gave an update about the exciting things that have been happening in the city, including new businesses and the upcoming “Canvas Pontiac” project which will focus on sculptures this year.
Mayor Deirdre Waterman spoke as well, saying “it’s so great to recognize all the young children with your banners here: joy, peace, love, and happiness, all the things we want to remember this time of year.”
A young man from Pontiac High also spoke, encouraging the youth to read and letting them know that Santa would be at the library the following day for the Holiday Extravaganza.
