Man Steals Unattended Ambulance from Hospital in Pontiac

INCIDENT: 23:01Hrs. occurred 11-30-14
– City of Pontiac – UDAA of an Ambulance. #14-189040
SUMMARY: Deputies were dispatched to the 50 block of N. Perry (McLaren Oakland Hospital emergency entrance), on a stolen ambulance from STAR EMS. Per the caller, the ambulance was parked by the emergency entrance after transporting a patient into the hospital. The caller advised that the ambulance was not locked and that a cellular phone had been left inside.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: Deputies notified dispatch and the cellular phone was found to be in the City of Sterling Heights. Dispatch notified Sterling Height Police Department and the ambulance was located. Sterling Heights PD conducted a traffic stop and a known homeless suspect who also has mental health issues was detained. Deputies arrived at the scene and took custody of the suspect and recovered the stolen ambulance. The ambulance was turned over to STAR EMS and the suspect was arrested and lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending arraignment.

~A Star EMS employee called Oakland County Dispatch to report the theft of an ambulance.
~ Deputies responded to 50 N Perry (McLaren Oakland Hospital).
~ Deputies learned that Star EMS employee exited the hospital to return the stretcher to the vehicle when she observed Ambulance #509 driving down Perry St. .
~ A Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy had OCSO Dispatch utilize cell phone technology to locate the vehicle.
~ Sheriff’s Deputies and Sterling Heights Police were able to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle near the area of 14 mile and Ryan in Sterling Heights.
~ The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle Bryan Joseph Kryscio, a homeless man with some mental health issues, who last resided in Pontiac, was taken into custody.
~ Star Ambulance #509 did not appear to be damaged in the incident.
~ The medication box, EMS radio and EKG monitor were all intact.
~ During transport to the jail Mr. Kryscio stated that he was on his way to the “Booby Trap”, a topless bar in Detroit, to “see some pole dancing”.
~ Mr. Kryscio has a prior criminal history in Florida for Robbery and in Michigan for Breaking and Entering, Possession of Marijuana and several convictions for Trespassing.
~ Mr. Kryscio was arraigned today in the 50th District Court in Pontiac on a charge of UDAA (Unlawfully Driving Away of an Automobile)and received a $5,000 cash or surety bond with a condition of GPS tether prior to release.
~ An Preliminary Exam date was scheduled for 12/09/14 at 1:30pm in front of Judge Preston Thomas of the 50th District Court.
