Royal Oak Schools announces the appointment of Joseph Youanes, as Principal of Addams Elementary School.

Prior to joining Royal Oak Schools as Assistant Principal at Royal Oak Middle School, Youanes taught elementary school in Troy for nine years.   He held various leadership roles in Troy, including five years as the coordinator/principal of the district’s summer program for elementary students and four years as an waterworkelementary school “head teacher.”

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Oakland University and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Saginaw Valley State.

The Addams Elementary School position was open following the appointment of Principal Jane Flarity-Gram as Special Education Director for the district. In filling the position, the district reviewed over 150 applications and looked for at least five years of elementary teaching experience and at least one year of successful leadership in an administrative position.   The interview process included parent, teacher, and board representation.   At the end of the process, the team was enthusiastic and unanimous in their recommendation of Mr. Youanes.seed09_jeannie_davis
