SEMCOG Nonmotorized Plan Open Houses, Oakland County is July 29New Harvest Homes NHH

Bicycle and pedestrian (nonmotorized) travel is a vital part of Southeast Michigan’s transportation systems. For many communities, biking and pedestrian facilities improve quality of life for residents and make these communities more desirable.

A nonmotorized plan for Southeast Michigan (including biking and walking) will soon be incorporated into seed021_helaine-zackSEMCOG’s 2040 Regional Transportation Plan for Southeast Michigan. This plan is scheduled for adoption at SEMCOG’s Fall General Assembly on November 13, 2014. In developing the plan, we are:

~Creating an inventory of existing and planned facilities in the region,

~Developing guidelines for new facilities,

~Identifying the most critical gaps within the nonmotorized corridors,

~Creating a planning resource for communities within the seven-county SEMCOG region to coordinate facilities across boundaries, andjennifer sandler bowen reflexology

~Recommending regional policies to address nonmotorized travel.

 

Public meetings were held last year to review existing paths/trails and identify locations for new projects. A second set of meetings will be held to review draft findings and recommendations of the plan. Here is the schedule:

These meetings are open house format and will include presentations and opportunity for comment. Presentations will occur at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
