Ferndale Schools Selects Blake Prewitt for Superintendent Job

At a special meeting Friday, following a fast-tracked search process that began in March, the Ferndale Public Schools (FPS) Board of Education performed their most important duty as board members. After much careful deliberation and discussion, they selected Ferndale’s new superintendent.
With a 7-0 vote, the Board approved making an offer to hire Mr. Blake Prewitt, Curriculum Director for Armada Area Schools, as the new superintendent of Ferndale Public Schools, pending reference checks, a site visit, and contract negotiations.
Blake Prewitt has been Curriculum Director for Armada Area Schools since 2012. Prior to that he was a high school principal in Ohio, and held several positions in the West Bloomfield School District.
Board President Jim O’Donnell said, “We didn’t expect to act on an offer of employment until next week, but after we reviewed post-interview comments from staff and community members and saw that they overwhelmingly concurred with the Board’s opinion of Mr. Prewitt, we decided to act quickly.” O’Donnell added, “The district needs the leadership that Mr. Prewitt can provide and the sooner he can join us, the better. The Board and the community are excited that he accepted our offer.”
It is expected that the reference check, site visits, and contract negotiations will be completed within a week. Until Prewitt joins the district, Kent Barnes, the interim superintendent, will continue to serve in this capacity.
