Your Say in the Look of I-75, Workshop Nov. 19
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Nov. 13, 2013)
The Michigan Department of Transportation is having a “Hands on Aesthetics Workshop for I-75” on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 1:00pm – 7:00pm at the Troy Community Center.
Stations will be setup throughout the room with MDOT staff and consultants available to discuss various items with attendees. There is no formal presentation, so participants can stop in any time through the day.
In June plans were approved for several major MDOT projects, including the widening of I-75. http://oaklandcounty115.com/2013/06/21/wider-i-75-in-the-works-and-other-semcog-plans-approved/. The cities of Ferndale, Hazel Park and Detroit were among those who passed resolutions against widening the freeway, citing a lack of population growth and needs for the funding to be used elsewhere. Congestion occurs daily on I-75, but there is debate over whether expansion will cure the traffic jams or continue to add to them.
The Nov. 19 workshop is not intended to discuss detailed design, funding, etc. Rather its purpose is to gather input on the overall look and feel of the I-75 corridor through Oakland County. Interested citizens will be able to provide input on various styles, themes and color options which will be evaluated once the design phase commences.
The workshop is being held at the Troy Community Center, Room 304, between 1 pm and 7 pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2013.
