The long awaited Meijer store at 8 Mile and Woodward in Detroit opened today.  The Grand Rapids- based department store and grocery is the first of it’s kind in the city meijer05in many years.  The store is in a plaza with other shops, such as PetCo and Marshall’s.  That area used to be home of the Michigan State Fair.   Inside shoppers can find Michigan-grown produce, Detroit-themed apparel, and other local products like Atwater Brewery’s State Fair Pale Ale.  Many Ferndale residents found coupons on their door in the past few days, showing that the store hopes to attract shoppers from both the city and the suburbs.  For more on what Meijer has to offer, check out their website at http://www.meijer.com/.
