Ferndale author Cara Trautman will debut her first original book Happy(ish) Saturday, May 4 with a special reading event at the Ringwald Theatre in Ferndale. Tickets ($5) will be available at the door 30 minutes prior to the event. The Ringwald Theatre is located in downtown Ferndale at 22742 Woodward Avenue, Ferndale MI 48220.

Happy(ish) follows Jane Pearson who is single, thirty-five and reluctantly dressed as a squirrel. When she’s not covered in fake fur, Jane sleeps with the wrong men, avoids laundry, sets her vibrator on fire, and dodges her mother’s demanding phone calls. Surrounded by eccentric friends, an offbeat family, peculiar co-workers and a twenty-four-year-old goldfish, Jane searches for happiness through a maze of dirty clothes, and hard lessons.

Set in Ferndale and throughout metro Detroit, the book includes mentions of many local businesses. At the May 4th event guests will enjoy staged readings from the book, meet the author, and receive FREE ice cream from Ferndale’s Treat Dreams. Author Cara Trautman, a Ferndale resident will narrate seven chapters from the book with dialogue performed by a cast of 11 local actors including: Melissa Beckwith, Lauren Bickers, Christa Coulter, Garrett Fuller, Bryan Lark, Lisa Jesswein, Scott Myers, modern taxCarrie Parmenter, Richard Payton, Travis Pelto, Mark Sobolewski and Jamie Warrow.

Cara Trautman is a local actor and writer who has lived in Ferndale for over eight years. A former teacher for Second City Detroit, she has co-written and performed in several plays produced at Go Comedy Improv Theater, The Ringwald Theater and the Planet Ant Theater. Cara is the winner of the 2012 Wilde Award for Best Performance in an Original One-Act Comedy. She grew up in Bloomfield Township, attended Lahser High School, and Indiana University, and is a two-time Peace Corps volunteer.

Happy(ish) is available now as an e-book through Amazon.com for $2.99 and will be available for free the weekend of the book launch (May 3-5). Interested readers without a Kindle can download the free Kindle app to their smart phone or computer.
