Matthew Leach Memorial Dedication and Pub Crawl April 27ctechad

Family, friends and supporters of Army Staff Sargent Matthew Leach will come together on April 27 to pay homage to the fallen soldier, and to raise money for a scholarship fund for his one-year-old son Jack.  Leach died while serving in Afghanistan on June 26, 2012, leaving behind his 559445_10150840418247872_1218476475_nwife Sarah and their son.  He was part of 82nd Airborne Division.

The Ferndale High School graduate was also an honorary member of the Berkley Legion after serving as the Berkley Cruisefest Grand Marshall in 2011.  The Legion will be unveiling a special-made memorial statue in his honor.  They are also unveiling a park bench dedicated to little Jack, so that he and others who have lost parents to war can have a place to sit and reflect.

The service will be held at 11am at the Berkley Legion at 2079 W. 12 Mile Road, Berkley on Saturday, April 27.  12 Mile will be closed for the service.  Visitors should go to the Legion and get directions from there to the memorial site.

At 4pm Saturday there will bef115sidebarfern a Pub Crawl in Ferndale, where money raised will go towards a scholarship fund for Jack.  The crawl will start at Rosie’s and attendees are asked to make a $20 donation.  Locations on the crawl will have h’dourves and a cash bar, with the money being raised going to Leach’s memorial scholarship fund.  The crawl will go from Rosie’s, to Buffalo Wild Wings, to Dino’s and back to Rosie’s.  Along the way there will be 50/50 raffles, sports memorabilia for sale, a silent auction and prizes given away.
