Police Raid House on College Street
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 10, 2013)
A house on College Street, known to neighbors by the large hip hop posters on the front porch and the steady stream of briefly-staying visitors, was the target of a raid by Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET), on Jan. 9, 2013.
As Ferndale Police stood by to assist and keep the area secure, NET officers with black face masks, bulletproof vests, a battering ram, and visible guns entered the single-story bungalow when it seemed that no one was home.
Ferndale officers in patrol cars watched from the street while the masked agents searched the house, bringing out large black bags to a waiting NET vehicle. Ferndale Officers also went in to help the NET team.
As the search wound down, only one marked police car waited further up the street. At about 5:35 pm a maroon vehicle pulled into the driveway, where the driver was met by an armed police officer who came out of the house. Police put the man, a black male in a red sweatshirt, handcuffed into the patrol car, and shortly thereafter drove the detainee and the maroon car away.
Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson confirmed that the raid was done by NET, but could offer no further information on the incident. NET is administered by Oakland County, but is a collaborative effort among participating local police agencies, including the Ferndale Police.
The Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre posters which decorate the front of the house appear to have survived the raid undamaged.
