Police Reports: Shots Fired Outside 711, Suspects at Large
(Lt. William Wilson, Ferndale Police Department, July 11, 2012)
On Sunday July 8, 2012 at about 2:40 a.m. men armed with a semi-automatic rifle fired shots at two men outside of the 7/11 Store located at 1040 W. 9 Mile road in Ferndale, at Pinecrest.
The incident happened after storms had knocked out power to the area causing the store to close down. Electrical services had just been restored and store employees were preparing to re-open the store. One of the employees noticed two black males approach the front door of the building. Both men covered their faces with disguises. One of the men pulled on the locked door. The clerk immediately feared the men were going to rob the store and phoned 911.
The suspects disappeared from her sight by going around the corner of the building.
Two other men (regular customers of the store) then walked to the same area where the suspects were. The clerk then heard gunshots and notified the police station.
The two local men (24 and 27 years old) walked up to where the two suspects were. The suspects then confronted the men and grabbed one of them. He broke loose and both victims ran while one of the suspects armed with a rifle fired several shots at the victims. Neither victim was struck by gunfire.
The suspects fled northbound on foot. Officers arrived quickly, but were not able to find the suspects.
