Eagles Pledge Presents U of M Glee Club Concert Oct 22
(Adapted from Eagles Pledge Press Release, 10/06/2011)
The Ferndale Public Schools Eagles Pledge is hosting its first fundraiser on Saturday, October 22, 2011. The University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club subgroup, the Friars, are performing on the Ferndale High School auditorium stage (881 Pinecrest) at 7:30 pm. This is a family-friendly concert, and includes an opening act by the Ferndale High School choirs.
Since the group’s inception in 1955, the Friars have been spreading their trademark jovial, lighthearted and fun-loving approach to a cappella music though song and what may sometimes pass as dance.
The Friars are an 8-member octet subset of the University of Michigan Men’s glee club and perform regularly with the club at many gigs throughout the year. There are also two of their own semesterly performances (The Study Break Concert in the fall, and The Best Concert Ever in the winter).
More information on the Friars can be found on their website, www.umfriars.com and performances can be seen on their YouTube channel, search: The Friars.
The Eagles Pledge is a small group of parents, community members and administrators with the initiative to provide or facilitate financial resources and support services to help graduates of Ferndale High School pursue their dream of a post-secondary education. Patterned after the successful Kalamazoo Promise, the long-term goal of The Eagles Pledge program is to establish a similar scholarship initiative for our own community. The short-term goal, is to award as many scholarships as possible to Ferndale High School graduates each year. The Eagles Pledge awarded two scholarships in 2011, a $500 to a senior, a $250 to a junior.
More information on the Eagles Pledge can be found on the website www.eaglespledge.org and on the Facebook page: Eagles Pledge.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or at the Kulick Center and Pleasant Ridge Recreation Centers, in all Ferndale Schools offices, online at www.brownpapertickets.com, and by phone at 800.838.3066.
