Former FHS Clarinetist Erik S. Johnson to perform in Kalamazoo May 20

Pleasant Ridge Clarinetist Erik S. Johnson will present his senior recital on Friday, May 20 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, 315 West Michigan Ave., Kalamazoo, MI. The program will feature Robert Muczynski’s Time Pieces, Miklos Rozsa’s Sonatina for Solo Clarinet, and the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. He will be joined by pianist Carl Witt.


Johnson is completing his Bachelor of Clarinet Performance with Bradley A. Wong and Stephanie Hovnanian and Composition with Richard Adams at Western Michigan University. He is currently a Fontana Chamber-Arts-WMU Artist-Citizen Fellow and has performed with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra and several ensembles and pit orchestras.


As a youth, Johnson participated in the Ferndale High School music program, the Northwestern University National High School Music Institute, Oakland Youth Orchestra, and the Detroit Symphony Civic Jazz Band. He was also the 2007 winner of the Oakland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Solo and Concerto Competition.
