Purple Glove Video Shows Ferndale Getting Ready for Relay

Purple Glove Video Shows Ferndale Getting Ready for Relay

(Crystal A. Proxmire, 3/27/2011)

As the weekend of June 11-12, 2011 approaches, Ferndale gears up for the 24 hour walk to raise money to fight cancer known as Relay for Life.  Teams from all over the City will walk the track at Ferndale High School, with pledges going for The American Cancer Society.  The event is known for it’s fun themes, performances and antics, which have started early this year thanks to the community-focused “Purple Glove” video.

Modeled after the famous Pink Glove video that has been circulating the Internet, Ferndale’s Purple Glove Video features some of the participating teams dancing around with purple gloves on their hands.  There are a few silly surprises as well, including a near-arrest and a purple-gloved massage.

Michele Sibula, Event Chair for Relay for Life of Ferndale, said the idea came from former Relay organizer Jackie Koivu who sent her a link to the original pink glove video.  “I watched the video and Immediately knew we HAD to do one,” Sibula said.

Ferndale-based M-1 Studios created the video for the group.  “Working with M-1 Studios and Mike Madigan was a great experience! They are extremely professional and we were quite honored that they were willing to film and produce our video,” Sibula said.  “It took a couple of weeks to shoot. We had to set up all the days and times and then head over to each location to film them! Mike Madigan from M-1 was most gracious with his time and willingness to go all over Ferndale to shoot all the pieces!”

Sibula takes part in the video too.  “I’m the one showing several cards of who I Relay for.  First you see a series of cards flashing by….then comes me…waving at the camera like a big goofball!! Ugh! I am DEFINITELY NOT ready for Prime Time!”

The video shows many sides of Ferndale.  Shooting took place at Roosevelt School, Ferndale High School, Claddagh Chiropractic, Hambo’s, Treat Dreams, Chazzano Coffee, Ferndale Police Department, Ferndale Fire Department, Ferndale Career Center, Go Comedy, and Mejishi Martial Arts.

Teams are forming now for the June 11-12th event, and Relay is still looking for sponsors. For more info, the website is:  www.relayforlife.org/ferndalemi.
