Michigan AIDS Coalition Has Auction at Via Nove! (March 26)

(3/24/2011)

The Michigan AIDS Coalition (MAC) is hosting a Silent Auction evening at Via Nove (344 West Nine Mile) on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 7:30 p.m. to midnight.  All dollars raised will be used to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Besides MAC, a portion of the dollars raised will be distributed to Community Health Awareness Group (Detroit); HIV/AIDS Resource Center (Ypsilanti); and the Grand Rapids Red Project (Grand Rapids). The grants will help support MAC and all three agencies to continue providing syringe exchange programs that have been effective in helping to prevent the spread of HIV and Hepatitis. Since its inception in the late 1980’s, MAC has granted nearly $12 million in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The remainder of the funds will be used for MAC’s AmeriCorps Program, now in its 13th year. Currently, MAC has members at the following agencies: MPowerment Detroit, Community Health Awareness Group, Health Emergency Lifeline Programs, Ruth Ellis Center, Detroit Dept. of Health and Wellness Promotion, Alternatives for Girls, and Henry Ford Health Systems. Other supporting partners are: National AIDS Fund, Elton John AIDS Foundation, MetLife Foundation, Corporation for National and Community Service, Metro Health Foundation, and Michigan Dept. of Community Health.

Alan DeWolf, Co-Chair of the event said, “In Ferndale, we love to party.  Let’s all come together and party around a great mission that will touch so many lives!”

Officially created in February, 2009, Michigan AIDS Coalition (MAC) is the new organization merged from the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project (MAPP) and Michigan AIDS Fund (MAF).  Over the course of 2008 and 2009, the two agencies merged their staffs, boards, budgets and programs to create a sustainable, comprehensive, state-wide HIV/AIDS organization.  Check out their website at http://michiganaidscoalition.org.
