Let’s Talk Health: Garden Time! (March 19)

Let’s Talk Health: Garden Time! Seedlings, Gardens and the Good Earth!

(Crystal A. Proxmire, 3/9/2011)

As part of their educational “Let’s Talk Health” Series, FernCare is presenting “Garden Time! Seedlings, Gardens and the Good Earth!”

The forum will take place Saturday, March 19, 2011 from 10:30 – 11:30am at Kulick Community Center, 1201 Livernois, Ferndale.  Participants will be given seeds and seed-starting supplies so they can have their own gardens off to a good start.  Healthy snacks will also be provided.

Trevor Johnson, creator and founder of The Good Neighbor Garden, winner of a 2009 CFF Good Neighbor Award, and Master Gardener, will be leading the discussion.

“Garden Time! Seedlings, Gardens and the Good Earth”…..  what a sneaky way to talk about nutrition, exercise, sunlight and all the other benefits of creating a garden in your own backyard,” said FernCare Board President Ann Heler.  “Trevor presented last year and was so helpful.  He is passionate about gardens!  AND he doesn’t believe that they need to take all of your spare time.   He will share his techniques as well as help people begin a set of seedlings for their own garden.”

Since 2009 FernCare has done Let’s Talk Health Discussions on a variety of topics.  An example was one on Asthma in Dec. 2009.  Last month a woman shared her experience of having a heart attack at age 35 without insurance.

FernCare Free Clinic provides medical care to individuals between the ages of 19 – 64 without health insurance.  For more information go to www.ferncare.org.
