Police Report: Fleeing and Alluding
(Lt. William Wilson, Ferndale Police Department, 2/14/2011)
On Friday 02/11/11 at approximately 4:15 p.m. a Ferndale officer made a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer for defective equipment. The Explorer was driven by BRANDON LAMAR WILLIAMS (b/m, 19, Detroit resident) who had two passengers with him (a 19 and a 22 year old man). As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver took off at a high rate of speed from the area of 9 Mile and Romeo. He fled into the neighborhoods where he struck a fire hydrant at Romeo and Orchard. The suspect made his way back to Hilton and fled east towards 8 Mile where he fled eastbound in westbound traffic lanes. The car then fled south into Detroit and through Detroit neighborhoods where Ferndale cars terminated the pursuit. Within seconds, Detroit police picked up the suspect vehicle and another pursuit took place. Ferndale officers assisted by cordoning off the area streets. The suspect attempted to flee by driving through open lots between Annin and Carmel, but got stuck in the snow.
The passengers were detained by Detroit and Ferndale officers. The driver ran on foot and was caught by a Ferndale officer.
Investigation showed that the passengers committed no violations and they were released. Both said they tried to convince their friend not to run from the police.
The driver had a suspended license.
WILLIAMS was arraigned by Magistrate James Patterson on charges of FLEEING AND ELUDING and DWLS and is being held on a $50,000 bond.
