Elementary Families – Ferndale Schools Want to Know What YOU Think
The Surveys are Coming
(Ferndale Schools, 1/27/2011)
The Ferndale Public School District is working with a consultant from Oakland Schools, Dr. Lindson Feun of the Research, Evaluation, and Assessment Department, to design a statistically sound parent survey which will provide the district feedback on current elementary programming and learn about parents’ interests in future programs.
During the months of December and January, the Instruction Office worked with Oakland Schools to develop and field test the survey with collaborators who included parents, teachers, administrators and community members. In order to secure the greatest possible response rate, Oakland Schools is administering the survey using a three-tiered approach.
Barbara Evoe, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction says, “We encourage all parents to complete the survey and take part in this important process.”
During the Week of January 24, Oakland Schools will email a message with a link to the survey to all elementary parents’ households (Using Contact 1 from Zangle/one per family) for whom we have an email address. Survey responses will go directly to Dr. Feun at Oakland Schools.
During Tier 1, parents can complete the surveys from Jan 24-Feb 4. Tier Two offers parents another opportunity to complete the survey on computers at school.
All three elementary schools will host a parent/family event, where parents who have not completed the survey will be offered an opportunity to do so in the school’s computer lab.
Roosevelt – Feb 1 & 3, during Parent Teacher Conferences Coolidge – Feb 3, during Family Reading Night Kennedy – Feb 4, during the Sock Hop Tier Three will involve follow up with any parents who have not yet completed by Feb 4.
Barbara Evoe says, “We believe using this three-tiered approach will result in a high participation rate.” She adds that parents who have email will be informed of the survey through our district newsletter, but everyone will learn of it at the building level, and through the district School Messenger call out system on Sunday, January 23.
The goal is to complete the survey collections by the end of February or early March. Dr. Feun will assemble and analyze the collected data and provide the results to the District.
Gary Meier, Superintendent, says the surveys are being conducted because it is “important for us to find out from those attending our schools what they like and would like to see in our schools. Their feedback will contribute to our decision making in the coming years.” Please direct any questions related to the survey to Cindi Lada in Education Services at clada@ferndaleschools.org.
