Canadian Favorite Sandi Wheaton Opens Exhibit

At State of the Art Jan 28

(Crystal A. Proxmire, 1/27/2011)

The opening reception of “Out to Dry: Flow and Ebb of the Salton Sea by Sandi Wheaton” takes place this Friday night, Jan. 28, 2001,  at State of the Art Framing & Gallery in Ferndale at 918 W. 9 Mile.  This is an American preview of sorts – an opportunity for those on the US side of the border to view and purchase selected works before they move on to Canada for the upcoming solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Windsor from March-June.  Wheaton is a regular visitor to Ferndale from Canada, and has had her work shown at State of the Art in the past.  The opening reception will start at 7pm.  More information on the exhibit can be seen at Wheaton’s website –

Just 4 UsTying into the Salton Sea theme will be a screening of the film  “Plagues and Pleasures on the Salton Sea”, an entertaining and award-winning one-hour documentary by Chris Metzler and Jeff Springer.  Wheaton will be on hand to talk about her photographs and about the film on Sat. Feb. 12 at 6pm, with the film being shown at 8pm.  This too will be at State of the Art.  For more information on the film go to

The Salton Sea is located in SE California.  It is known for its environmental problems, and is the site of many abandoned homes and businesses due to flooding and contamination.  Wheaton’s photographs capture the devastation, and nature’s attempts at overcoming the damage that industry has caused.

State of the Art Custom Framing is owned by Veronica Lujic and Nicole Raffaill.  The ladies at State of the Art pride themselves not only on their custom frame work, but on their support of community arts.  Like many Ferndale businesses, they share space with artists looking to showcase their works.  Find out more about State of the Art by going to
