Bike Thefts

Recently, Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge have been experiencing numerous bicycle thefts.

Police suspected DAVID VINCENT MCARTHUR (36 yrs, w/m, Ferndale resident) for the thefts.

On 10/15/10 at about 6:30 p.m. a patrol sergeant saw Mcarthur riding a bicycle on 9 Mile near West End. The officer stopped Mcarthur and questioned him about the bicycle. Mcarthur could not adequately explain how he got the bicycle, so the officer confiscated the bike; he did not have enough information to arrest Mcarthur at the time.

About forty minutes later, FPD received a report of a stolen bicycle from nearby on Chestnut Street. A witness described a person matching the description of Mcarthur.

A Ferndale officer soon found Mcarthur driving a bike near 8 Mile / John R. Upon questioning Mcarthur, the officer determined that Mcarthur stole the bike he was on from a home on Madge in Hazel Park; he left the bike he stole from Chestnut in the yard on Madge. Police arrested Mcarthur for the bicycle thefts.

Mcarthur has a lengthy criminal history with convictions for crimes including: Breaking and Entering, Home Invasion, and larceny.
